The rugged and versatile Specialized Turbo Tero X electric adventure bike is now available.

The brand says the Tero X has taken its e-MTB expertise and packed it with a healthy dose of cargo, commuting and adventure.

This latest offering adds to Specialized’s near-domination of the best e-bikes (opens in a new tab) field, with an option for nearly every bike discipline, and now it appears to have conjured up a whole new category of SUV bikes, The category could also feature the best gravel and adventure bikes.

The goal of the Tero X was to create a do-it-yourself bike that might be the first SUV that environmentally conscious cyclists can approve of. But will it really allow diehards to move away from gas-guzzling oversized ATVs and toward bicycle equivalents?

It depends a lot on how dependent you are on four wheels, and ultimately how much stuff you’re carrying on your adventure rides.

Capable of carrying an additional 30kg of irregularly shaped loads, multiple mounting points allow you to carry skis, golf clubs, fishing gear and, to quote the brand, “a performance-focused basket and pannier like the Coolcave” (a plastic bucket pannier , forming part of the Fjällräven X Specialized collab for laymen).

If you’re serious about catching salmon, opting for an adventure with the kids, or just need a little more gear, Specialized says this bike is great for trailering.
