Mads Pedersen (Trek-Segafredo) won stage 16 of the 2022 Tour of Spain when Primož Roglič (Jumbo-Visma) crashed after leading the driver into the final 500m of the stage in a tense five-man sprint.
It was Pederson’s victory in the second stage, followed by Pascal Akerman (UAE-UAE), Danny van Popper (BORA-Hangrohe) and Fred Wright (Bahrain victory) back.
Roglič kicked 2.5km and at the start of the sprint he appeared to clip Wright’s bike, or possibly his knee. The crash left him bleeding on the tarmac, although he was able to get back on and cross the finish line, questioning his condition as the race entered its final days.
Race leader Remco Evenepoel (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) had a quiet day until he punctured the final 2.2km. However, his race lead was retained due to the 3km rule.
